StudentSecure Medical Insurance is a plan designed to meet the needs of international students and scholars. Four levels of coverage Select, Budget, Smart and Elite options, ensure that you can find the ideal plan. Each plan includes coverage for Medical Expenses, Emergency Medical Evacuation, and Acts of Terrorism. Pre-existing conditions are covered after 6 months for Elite and Select option and after 12 months for Budget.
StudentSecure International Student Insurance provides Policy Maximums of $300,000 under the select plan; $ 250,000 under the budget plan; $200,000 under smart plan and $500,000 under the elite plan.
StudentSecure Smart: $100 per Injury or Illness (reduced to $50 if you visit the Student Health Center.
StudentSecure Elite and Select: $50 per Injury or Illness (reduced to $25 if you visit the Student Health Center.
StudentSecure Budget: $90 per Injury or Illness (reduced to $45 if you visit the Student Health Center.
  • Outside the U.S. and Canada:
    After the Deductible, StudentSecure Medical Insurance will pay 100% of Eligible Expenses to Certificate Period Maximum.
  • In USA
    StudentSecure Medical Insurance will pay 80% of the next $5,000 (for select), 80% of the next $25,000 (for the Budget plan) of Eligible Expenses after Deductible, then 100% to Certificate Period Maximum.
    StudentSecure Smart: underwriters will pay 80% and Elite underwriters will pay 100% of eligible expenses after deductible.
One can select any one of the 4 plans — select, budget, smart and elite. .
StudentSecure Medical Insurance may be extended after the initial purchase up to a maximum of 12 months at a time from the initial effective date. The plan can be renewed up to a maximum of 4 years without a break in coverage.

  • The plan is available to all Full time international students and scholars. The Full-time Student/Scholar status requirement is waived for students in the US on a valid F1 or J1 visa. F1 students on OPT status who are not enrolled in classes are also eligible. Full-time status is a must for individuals holding M-1 or other category visas.
  • Participants visiting the US must hold a valid education-related visa. A copy of the I-20 or DS-2019 may be requested. For US citizens and residents, the Host Country must be outside the US , including US territories.

  • Physical Therapy & Chiropractic Care – Elite: $75/day; Select/Budget: $50/day; Smart: $25/day
  • Intercollegiate, interscholastic, intramural, club sports – $5000: Select. Elite; $3000: Budget’ No coverage for Smart
  • Terrorism – $50,000 (No Coverage for Smart)
  • Benefit Period for coverage after Policy Termination Date
  • Accidental Death & Dismemberment – Select and Elite: $25,000; Not covered under Budget and Smart

Waiver Form: The plans meet most university requirements. Please call or email us to confirm the same. After your purchase, email us your waiver forms with your certificate number to insurance@nriol.net and we will have them completed and sent to your school.

PPO Network: For charges incurred within the PPO – FirstHealth PPO for both inbound and outbound plans or at a Student Health Center , coinsurance will be waived in the Select plan.

Renewal: Coverage can be renewed up to a maximum of 4 years as long as you meet eligibility requirements. Provided there is no break in coverage, you will not be required to satisfy the deductible and coinsurance.

Cancellation: To be eligible for a full refund, the request for cancellation must be received prior to the effective date. Cancellation requests received after the effective date will be subject to the following conditions:

  • A $25 cancellation fee will apply
  • Only premium for the unused whole months of the plan will be refunded.
  • Only members who have no claims are eligible for premium refund
  • After 60 days, no refunds are granted
