Insurance Follows Students Wherever They Go

College life is one of penury for most students, not just international students. Managing costs and looking for ways to save money are the hallmarks of a student, and health insurance for students is an area where students can save money without sacrificing the quality of coverage.

Purchasing college student health insurance from outside the college/university is not just the domain of the international student. Some U.S. students may find that their parents’ plans don’t cover them anymore. The Assurant Student Select insurance plan offers affordable coverage for students studying at a U.S. university or college.

The plan offers a maximum lifetime coverage of $1 million, and a per-incident maximum of $100,000. You can choose from a range of deductibles. The plan is an 80-20 co-insurance plan, up to $10,000. After that amount, the plan picks up the entire tab.

Covered expenses include physician visits, inpatient care, intensive care, surgery, some prescription medication, medical diagnostics, medical evacuation, and repatriation, where applicable. If mandated by the state, the plan also offers wellness benefits and coverage for substance abuse and mental health. Since the plan is not an HMO or PPO plan, you are covered no matter where you receive the care.
