If you’re passionate about rock climbing, and have tickets booked for the awesome rock formations of Wharepapa, you’ll need more than the benefits offered by a regular travel insurance policy. You’ll need sports travel insurance that will cover injuries or accidents arising out of your rock climbing.
The Patriot Extreme plan is one such plan specially tailored for extreme sports enthusiasts traveling abroad. Two plans—Patriot Extreme International, for U.S. citizens traveling outside the U.S., and Patriot Extreme America, for non-U.S. citizens traveling outside their home country—make up the Patriot Extreme offering.
The plan is a comprehensive benefit plan, and carries a policy maximum of $50,000. It offers inpatient and outpatient benefits, including emergency evacuation, emergency reunion, and return of mortal remains benefits. U.S. citizens are offered a few additional benefits such as hospital indemnity and limited coverage for the sudden onset of a pre-existing condition.
Which sports are covered under the plan? The plan covers injuries suffered during non-contact amateur athletics and activities such as BMX, bungee jumping, flying, hang gliding, kayaking, inline skating, mountain biking, rappelling, rock climbing, and scuba diving. However, note the conditions for each activity: For rock climbing, the plan only covers the activity up to 4500 meters from ground level.
