Reports reveal that the percentage of American citizens who have purchased a private health insurance coverage plan has reached the lowest level in the last 50 years in spite of enough warnings spread through various sources about the importance of coverage through a reliable health insurance plan.
Statistics state that about 80% of the senior citizens availed coverage during the 1970s ‘ 80s through a private medical insurance plan. It dropped down to about 67% around 2007 and further went down to about 65% during 2008.
With the recession at its peak, the uncertainty of job scenario and affordability, skyrocketing health care costs and hence the premiums, the percentage is dipping down further.
At this point of time, it is advisable for such uninsured people to opt for short term medical insurance coverage so that they are covered with at least the basic requirements of health exigencies.
The eligibility of Medicaid plan is also expanding in order to reduce the number of uninsured people in the state. Health reform overhaul may also start new affordable health insurance plans for the benefit of the customers.
Reports also state that the rate of uninsured children in the US has decreased as more children in the nation are covered under public health care plans.
